In light of the Coronavirus, BST has announced it will NOT conduct a season. See full announcement below:
Hello Batesville Swim Team,
I hope you are all doing well!
Unfortunately, the 2020 summer swim season has been cancelled. We have been in communication with the other teams in the SEISA league, and we have been paying attention to our government updates with respect to COVID-19. Although we were hopeful that our season may still occur, here is how the final decision came about:
On Thursday April 30th, Dr. Jennifer McCormack, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, confirmed that school facilities will not open until June 30th. This means that all teams in our league who use their local school facility for a pool will not have access to a pool, making it impossible for them to have a swim team. These teams include Madison, Greensburg, Milan, and Jennings County. In addition, Switzerland County had already dropped out for the season. This only leaves Hidden Valley, who is still unsure if they will even open their pool this summer. Although I expect we would have made the same decision, the decision was really made for us by the other teams inability to participate.
Currently, the coaches and board are open to a makeshift swim camp of some kind later in the summer providing: 1. The Batesville Memorial Pool Opens AND 2. The COVID-19 Issues Have Been Resolved . . . . which you all know is pretty unlikely . . . However we’re not closed off to the possibility. We’ll reach out if this becomes more of a reality.
I think we’re all in the same boat here. I wish this weren’t the case. I love seeing the kids in the water being part of the team.
Greg & Kat still seem excited to be coaching the team, and Jill, Kim, and I are all still happy volunteering on the board. Financials are good. Everything with the team is in order and good. It just looks like we’ll have to take a longer break than usual.
Thank you, Jeremy
